Who Motivates Me — And Why I Built Versadox the Way I Did

Jacob Atkinson
Versadox Founder

Hi,

Someone asked me recently, plainly: who motivates you? I didn't have to think long about the answer, but I've been thinking about how to say it properly ever since. So here it is, in full.

My faith, first

My faith does. I'm a Christian, and it's the thing underneath everything else I do — the quiet, steady part that doesn't move when the rest of building a company does. Founding something from nothing is unstable by nature. Revenue moves, plans change, the thing you thought was true on Monday isn't true by Friday. Having something that doesn't shift with all of that has mattered more to me than I expected it to when I started this.

I don't say that to make a statement. I say it because it's true, and because if I'm going to answer "who motivates you" honestly, leaving that out would make the rest of the answer incomplete.

The people I watch closely

Past that, I'm someone who's genuinely embedded in the world of self-development, founders, scalers and motivators. Not as a spectator — I actually pay attention to how these people think, not just what they've built.

A few names come up for me constantly:

What ties all four of them together, for me, isn't the specific industry or the size of the outcome. It's that they learned, they built, they tested, they measured, and they kept pushing through — through debt, through setbacks, through the parts of building something that never make it into the interview. Being able to watch that up close, even from a distance, is genuinely one of the things that keeps me going on the harder weeks.

The price of Versadox

‍

Why that matters for Versadox

All of that — the faith, the people I watch, the way they build — feeds directly into why Versadox exists and who I built it for.

I wanted to build something genuinely cost-effective. Not "cheap" in the sense of low-value, but priced so a student or a graduate could actually use it without it being a decision they have to think twice about. Something that can cost as little as two coffees a month. That's not a marketing line — that's the actual design constraint I set for myself early on, because I remembered exactly what it felt like to be stretched thin and still need to figure out my next move.

Students and graduates trying to break into a market that doesn't make it easy for them shouldn't have to burn a hole in their wallet to get a straight answer about where they stand. That's the foundation I want Versadox built on, and it's the direction I want it to keep growing in — not because it's a good pitch, but because it's the actual reason I started.

Faith keeps me steady. The people I watch keep me honest about the work. And building something students and graduates can actually afford is why I keep showing up to do it.
